Breath and Spirit -
healing trauma & addiction

2022 Autumn Breath Awareness Retreat with Ann Harrison
Central West Campus, Millthorpe

Dates: 2-9 April  |  Tuition fee  $1450  |  Begins 1.30 pm 2 April  Ends 12pm 9 April [approx.]

The teachings in this retreat will be looking at principles that hold true and can act as constant reference points in an ever changing world.

We will ...
  • look at the sources of trauma from the perspective of the individual and the collective.
  • Identify the trauma symptoms - in the body, in emotional reactions and in relationships.
  • addiction as a response to trauma
  • experientially explore possible healing solutions through the breath

The developmental or acute trauma that is experienced by an individual does no take place in a vacuum.
There are situations or a particular situation that gives rise to trauma within the individual.

Sources of developmental trauma in youth include ongoing uncertainty and disruption in the home; abuse and/or abandonment.
As adults we can experience traumatic events - crashes, medical operations, being force to flee, unexpected death of a loved one ...

If the symptoms of trauma are acute - depression, violence, self harm or the allowing of others to harm us - then in the first instance we need to ensure our mental emotional safety, we need to experience that we are safe in our own bodies. We can do this though Breathwork when we experience the affect of trauma in our bodies while at the same time allowing those feelings to dissolve.

Family Constellation work is experiential as well, but it allows the individual to see that larger context for their individual lives and experience the commonalities of the human condition. One can see 'it didn't start with me" and that there have always been consequence of human acts.

We have to start where we are as an individual, and it is our own bodymind that provides us with the entry point to understanding and healing. The process includes
  • presentation of knowledge on trauma
  • introspective contemplation
  • pen and paper analyses of self and situations
  • Breathwork
  • Family Constellations
The 8 day retreat will be like a journey to the underworld of ourselves and creating a new perspective as we surface.
Our day in nature, half way through the retreat might well include a visit to these caves, where the outer journey reflects the inner.
